New Classes

COOKIE A'S MONKEY SOCKS
Amy Decker, Instructor
First Session Saturday, April 30th, 1:00-4:00
Additional two sessions to be determined by students and instructor

A popular sock pattern from the Winter '06 issue of Knitty.com
(http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTmonkey.html). A great
pattern for introducing yourself to the worlds of socks, lace, and funky
handpainted yarns. If you haven't tried one of those tempting
multi-color handpainted or self-striping sock yarns, this is a great
pattern to show off the yarn without overwhelming the simple lace
design. Single color yarns will also work well. Amy will be using the
double-pointed needles method of knitting in the round. However,
students may use whatever method with which they are most
comfortable.

The class is designed for the intermediate knitter or the adventurous
advanced beginner looking for a challenge. Techniques used: knitting
and purling in the round, increases, decreases, yarn overs, knit 2
togethers, twisted stitches, short-row shaping, picking up stitches,
grafting, and chart reading. It sounds like a lot, but Amy will walk
students through each part of the sock by focusing on one area at a
time.

If a student is unable to make one of the sessions or feels the need for a
little extra help, Amy is willing to arrange another time with them.

$46.00 for 3 sessions plus cost of materials.

REVERSIBLE LOTUS BLOSSOM HAT
Pat Pennock, Instructor
Thursday, May 19th and 26th, 5:30-7:30

A Moebius is the beginning of this well-fitting hat. Check out Cat
Bordhi's
A Treasury of Magical Knitting, which is required for this
2-session class. Best to have some knowledge of increasing and
decreasing before trying this fun knitting.

$34.00 for 2-session class plus cost of materials

EASY LACE CAPELET/PONCHO
Pat Pennock Instructor
Saturday, June 4th, 1:30-3:30
Sessions 2 and 3 to be determined by students and instructor.

The  feather and fan stitch used in this  Fiber Trends pattern, might
help you unravel the mysteries of yarn overs and knit 2 togethers.
The wrap may also be constructed with a simple garter stitch.

$46.00 plus cost of pattern and materials

SCALLOPED BEADED SCARF
Carol Harding, Instructor
Saturday, April 2nd, 1:00-4:00
If you need help after that, we'll make individual arrangements.

Ever seen a plain-ish summer dress or top accented by a stunning silk
scarf? Here's your chance to add such a stunner to your own or a
friend's (she'll love you forever!!) wardrobe without adding to the pile
of warm winter scarves. And it's EASY: Nuthin' but KNIT! And even
better: it can be a one-skein wonder.

Well, maybe a little extra fun challenge - beads. But easy. Promise!!
The project only requires a confident beginner whose knit stitch
maintains even tension, so even a relative newbie can take on this
project. A beautiful aqua sample can be viewed at the Rose & Ram. The
beads transform this basic garter stitch scarf into a "wow!" creation.

$15.00 plus cost of materials (Full materials list provided when you
sign up. You'll need to do some advance purchasing, so don't wait until
the last minute.)

BEGINNING KNITTING

Hand-knit sweaters sell for hundreds of dollars - an incentive to learn
how to knit your own! Knitting basically uses only two stitches - the
knit stitch and the purl stitch. Once you learn these, the possibilities
are endless! In addition to basic knitting, topics such as utilizing
different knitting techniques, correcting mistakes, and how to read
patterns will be covered. Needed supplies will be discussed at first class.

$46.00 for three 2-hour classes plus cost of materials.

BEGINNING CROCHET
Elise Clason, Instructor
Please call the Rose & Ram to schedule classes

NEW ZEALAND SWEATER
Bobbie Dolp, Instructor
First Session Wednesday, April 27th, 2:00-4:00
Additional sessions to be determined by students and instructor

Create a pullover based on another of Elizabeth Zimmerman's fabulous
inventions! Made on circular needles, this sweater is characterized by
the "best fit you can imagine" - to quote Meg Swanson, E's daughter.
The sweater is comfy, interesting and doable! Skills you may acquire
involve using short rows for shaping, making an underarm gusset and
"phoney seams." This pattern is adaptable for any yarn but probably
best in worsted or larger - can you guess why? See store sample if you
are in doubt.

The class is scheduled for three sessions (just for purposes of setting a
fee), but class will meet as many times as necessary to complete the
project.

$46.00 plus cost of pattern and materials

KNIT-ONE-BELOW SCARF
Bobbie Dolp, Instructor
To be determined

This simple stitch creates wonderful effects with variegated and/or
solid colored combinations. Make a scarf to become confident with this
easy-to-learn technique before going on to exploring its uses in larger
projects. This garment would be a perfect Christmas gift for that
special someone! Check out the sample scarf at the Rose & Ram.
Pattern can be downloaded or is available in the irresistible book of the
same name.

$20.00 plus cost of materials

SOLSTICE SWEATER (Pullover)
Bobbie Dolp, Instructor
To be determined

Times for remaining classes to be determined by instructor and class
participants, and can meet as many times as necessary to complete
the project.

This delightful pattern from Green Mountain Spinnery is inspired by a
Danish farmer's sweater. It features knitting stripes in the round with
checkered shoulders and cuffs. Skills to be applied include knitting a
hem, picking up a sleeve at the shoulders and determining the rate of
decrease to the cuff, making a steek for the armholes (optional) and
working with two colors simultaneously. You can make either a child's
or adult's version. There are samples of both in the shop - check them
out!

$36.00 for classes plus cost of materials

EZ'S THREE & ONE CARDIGAN
Bobbie Dolp, Instructor
To be determined

Times for remaining classes to be determined by instructor and class
participants, and can meet as many times as necessary to complete
the project.

The folks at Schoolhouse Press consider this sweater to be the best of
Elizabeth Zimmerman's color-pattern designs. The magic of it is in the
regular rotation of 3 colors on a background in patterns which never
repeat themselves; there is a delightful rhythm of 3 stitches of one
color, 1 stitch of another with an occasional plain round. This sweater
can be either a cardigan or pullover, any size. Techniques include
stranding, making a steek and setting in sleeves. It knits up quite
quickly. See the store samples at the rose & Ram.

$36.00 for classes plus cost of materials.

THE MAGIC OF DOUBLE KNITTING

Years ago, I took this class with Yvonne when I owned Molehill Farm -
one of the best classes I have ever taken! Had a lot of fun and became
just a little obsessed (okay sock knitters) with knitting gloves. Check
out Events on the website for specifics on this great class!

$65.00 for workshop plus cost of materials.
